THE DESIGN PROCESS

  • Step one of the branding process! We hop on a call and discuss you, your business, and what you need. I learn the story of your business and what you love about your work, and we discuss how I can best serve you. This is the time for us to get to know each other, decide if we’ll be a good fit, and figure out which of my packages will best fit your needs. During this call, I will answer any questions you may have about the branding process, and we can start to dig into your vision for your brand and business.

  • After our call, I’ll send you a proposal which will include a summary of our discussion, a timeline for your project, and a project agreement. Once the details are set, you send the deposit and a signed copy of the agreement.

  • Now the creation really begins. I’ll send a brand questionnaire your way–this is your time to reflect on your business. Branding is a form of storytelling, and the more details you share, the more personal and true-to-you your brand will be. You use this as a space to reflect on where you are in your journey and where you want to go. I’ll refer back to this throughout the process as I craft the visual narrative of your business.

  • Using your story, I create the “first draft” of your brand. This document will include keywords, a color palette, imagery, typography inspiration, and logo sketches (drawing is a big part of my process). With the mood board, we can establish your brand direction before investing a lot of time into the process, ensuring that we are on the same page as I start designing.

  • After you approve the Mood Board, I will send you your brand presentation. This document will include your logo family, color palette, typography, and illustrations, as well as mock-ups to show how your brand will look when applied. Since we established the brand direction in the Mood Board stage, I present one brand identity option.

  • After you have had time to review the brand presentation, it’s time to share your thoughts! I want your feedback on what is working, as well as anything that doesn’t feel quite right to you. You have two rounds of revisions–I want you to love the final outcome and put time and energy into ensuring that you do.

  • Once we have finished the brand identity, I will put together your complete brand package. This will include a brand guide with styling instructions, files, fonts, social media graphics, illustrations, any merchandise, business cards, and all final files. If you are a Brand Identity client, this also includes your simple website. If you have hired me for a complete website design, we will begin work on this now.

FAQs

  • I work intuitively with my hands, and this process informs my style. However, each illustration and brand identity is unique, and your final brand will be custom made for your business, preferences, and needs.

  • In general, a Brand Identity will be complete within 6-8 weeks and a Brand Identity + Website package will take 12 weeks. Illustration projects will vary depending upon the project. However, each brand is different, and timelines can be adjusted as needed.

  • I have been using Squarespace since 2015! I love how customizable, user-friendly, and intuitive the platform is. It is also responsive, mobile friendly, and has e-commerce options.

  • So many ways! As part of your brand guide, I will provide examples and suggestions for using the illustrations, but here are a few ways. Illustrations can be used as part of your website design (if I am designing your website I will incorporate them). They can be used as Instagram highlight covers, as part of social media graphics, and on merchandise. Illustrations are a beautiful way to express your brand story and there are so many fun ways to use them!
